NEW ERA AT BLAKE JOINERY FOLLOWING RETIREMENT OF ALAN JONES

A new chapter begins at Blake Joinery, a subsidiary of Pollard, following the retirement of long serving Managing Director, Alan Jones. To mark the occasion a presentation was made to Alan by Pollard’s Managing Director and fellow Blake Board member Bill Badham attended by all current Blake staff together with Alan’s wife Lyn.

Commenting at the presentation, Bill Badham said

“Following 21 years leading Blake Joinery upon its successful path, Alan Jones has decided that the time is right for him to put his feet up, spend more time with his wife, and retire.”

“Alan joined Blake in April 1996 and has seen many changes in both ownership and working practices. The business has evolved in accordance with the construction market needs and, with Alan’s leadership, the business has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the region’s leading manufacture of purpose made joinery.”

“It is very much ‘business as usual’ after Alan’s departure with Ben Williams, who has worked alongside for many years, taking over the reins thereby ensuring a seamless transition particularly as Ben tells me that he does all of the work anyway!”

In reply Alan said

“Having commenced a four year Apprenticeship in 1971 I have seen many changes during my time in the industry.”

“In those days joinery was manufactured on a supply only basis with Softwood generally supplied with a coat of pink water based primer and Hardwoods generally supplied “In the white” which is a strange term as it means nothing applied. Now for companies such as ours, we have had to evolve and adapt and we have to offer a much bigger service such as full decoration, site fixing, ironmongery and glazing.”

“Hugh Pollard was the man in charge when I joined Blake and I have seen two management buy-outs since then. I have been fortunate to have had the trust and backing from all of the owners including the current board who have allowed me to run the business as my own and I thank them for that. Blake has gone from strength to strength and has a solid order book for the foreseeable future. I am delighted to be handing over the reins to Ben Williams. Ben has worked closely with me over the years to achieve this very moment, and I am sure that under Ben’s leadership Blake will prosper for many years to come.”

“Finally may I wish the Board of Directors and all staff of both Pollard & Blake Joinery the very best for the future.”

As they say “It’s been a blast”
